Symbol Technologies' WS 5000 Wireless Switch for media-independent wireless networking is open, extensible and expandable. Its media independence is designed to support frequency hopping, 802.11b (Wi-Fi™), 802.11a and emerging standards. A security suite is included which protects mobile data, applications and networks through VLAN and other proven mobile security technology. Class-of-service functionality provides flexible, secure user access and application management without sacrificing performance.
The LynxOS® real-time operating system is located at the networking switch layer, which allows wireless system settings to be changed, and new functions to be easily added, in real-time. LynxOS ensures the real-time transfer and collection of data that is critical in the day-to-day business of Symbol's customers in such diverse industries as retail, manufacturing, health care, government, transportation, and logistics.
