John Deere's R-Gator military unmanned ground vehicle is built on the M-Gator™ utility vehicle platform. R-Gator is enhanced with iRobot's proprietary robot technology can autonomously perform dangerous military missions including acting as an unmanned scout, "point man," perimeter guard, pack/ammo/supply carrier and more, for soldiers, marines and airmen.
iRobot used BlueCat® embedded Linux®, a commercial-grade embedded operating system based on the Linux 2.6 kernel, to power the R-Gator's robotic control, navigation and object avoidance systems. In addition to the R-Gator, iRobot makes several other military robots based on Linux.
