Our LynxOS-178 secure real-time operating system provides APIs for the FACE™ (Future Airborne Capability Environment) security and safety profiles. The FACE APIs are heavily based on the same POSIX® standard as LynxOS-178, which runs on both Intel® x86 and PowerPC® platforms.
LynuxWorks™ is an Associate Sponsor of the FACE Consortium, which operates as under the auspices of The Open Group. FACE defines the framework for creating a common operating environment that supports applications across multiple Department of Defense avionics systems.
What is Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE)?
LynuxWorks discusses the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) in this interview on engineeringtv.com.
Future Airborne Capability Environment support by our LynxOS®-178 real-time operating system (RTOS) includes:
The Future Airborne Capability Environment standard is designed to enhance the U.S. military aviation community's ability to improve software reuse, accelerate war-fighter capabilities, and facilitate the adoption of new technologies.
The FACE Consortium is composed of industry and government member organizations, their representatives, and advisors, creating an acquisition-neutral setting where industry can work together with government customers to produce open standards and to influence procurement and policy.
LynxOS-178 is the only time- and space-partitioned RTOS to be awarded FAA Reusable Software Component (RSC) certification (AC 20-148), allowing customers to save substantial time and money in certifying their own systems. The roadmap for LynuxWorks support of FACE includes DO-178 Level A artifact certification under the LynuxWorks Reusable Software Component (RSC) program.
