Kontron Train Management System (TMS)Control of over 2000 Ethernet-connected units on French National Railways (SNCF)

Kontron, a SynergyWorks member with offices worldwide, supplied a CompactPCI®-based train control system for the French National Railways (SNCF). There are approximately 200 control units and 2000 field units on the track connected by Ethernet. The outdoor units on the rails are equipped with Kontron's E²Brain Computer-on-Module for features like extended temperature range, resistance to harsh environment conditions, and high reliability.

For maximum reliability, redundancy is designed into the system through the use of two different hardware and software technologies. In one part of the system, LynxOS® RTOS runs on a PowerPC® 8540, while real-time Linux® runs on a Kontron CP306 x86 Intel® Pentium® M CPCI board. In the case of failure, whether software or hardware, the redundant system takes over.
