Protocom's PR818—the world's first MPEG-4 encoder-decoder (CODEC) system-on-chip (SoC)—is used by embedded-systems developers in consumer electronics devices that require high-quality video capture and display. Applications of the PR818 range from cellphones, set-top boxes, and timeshifting video recorders, to hybrid still/motion cameras and full-duplex video-conferencing applications. The PR818 has an integrated ARM® 922T-based processor core and supports both PAL and NTSC video formats.
The PR818 is available to developers in a BlueCat® Linux®-based evaluation platform that includes development tools and developer seat licenses from LynuxWorks™, USB 2.0 support, and industry-standard glue-less interfaces to the video encoder/decoder and removable storage devices.
