
HP uses the LynxOS® real-time operating system (RTOS) as the common operating system for its HP Laserjet printers. The decision to move to LynxOS was part of a project to consolidate code bases and make them modular in design and with stable interfaces. Previously, development of monochrome and color printers had been done separately, with two different operating systems—one homegrown, the other outsourced.
