LynuxWorks Announces Joint Development with General Dynamics C4 Systems to Accelerate Adoption of LynxSecure Technology

LynuxWorks' embedded OS and General Dynamics' Information Assurance expertise come together to bring to market-leading Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) products

SAN JOSÉ, CA-April 23, 2010—LynuxWorks™, Inc., a world leader in the secure embedded software market, today announced that it has been working jointly with General Dynamics C4 Systems to accelerate the feature set of LynuxWorks LynxSecure technology and broaden its adoption into secure systems.

As part of a joint development activity, engineering teams from both companies have collaborated to build the most responsive technology available to meet customer high-assurance security requirements based on the LynxSecure software separation kernel from LynuxWorks. The combination of real-time operating system (RTOS) technology and expertise from LynuxWorks, coupled with the Information Assurance knowledge and expertise from General Dynamics, has culminated in leading products and solutions for the security market.

Available from LynuxWorks since 2006 as a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) product, the LynxSecure software provides the technology base for the joint development with General Dynamics. Spanning two years, the joint effort is yielding dramatic increases in computer security including the consolidation of dissimilar operating system environments that enable a diverse array of applications to be co-resident on a single processor, multiple processors and multicore processors.

In the case of General Dynamics' use of LynxSecure for secure mobile computing, the company reduced hardware quantities, in addition to cost and power requirements, while allowing easier reuse of legacy software and enabling operational efficiencies all within a secure, assured environment.

"The General Dynamics High Assurance Open Scalable Technologies solutions, particularly the Trusted Embedded Environment (TEE) for multi-level computing, enables different operating systems in mobile tactical environments to run simultaneously on a host computer," said John Cole, vice president of Information Assurance for General Dynamics C4 Systems. "TEE allows users to access and share information at multiple security levels on one computer, and the separation kernel technology has provided the secure platform to enable this."

"LynxSecure is unique in its feature set. Coupled with the highest security implementation, LynxSecure now provides the leading MILS platform for our customers to develop their high assurance applications," said Gurjot Singh, CEO of LynuxWorks. "The joint development with General Dynamics C4 Systems has enabled us to accelerate the release of LynxSecure 4.0 and maintain technology leadership in the security market."

The LynxSecure 4.0 product from LynuxWorks has the greatest functionality of any separation kernel product in the Information Assurance market. It has support for both para-virtualized and fully virtualized guest operating systems. LynxSecure utilizes hardware virtualization to offer near-native performance of virtualized guests such as Windows and Linux operating systems. LynxSecure 4.0 offers the most flexible support for multicore hardware allowing core sharing across multiple guest operating systems, core affinity with a core dedicated to a guest operating system, and support for a single Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) guest operating system across multiple cores. LynxSecure was designed from the ground up to be evaluated to the highest levels of Common Criteria evaluation, namely EAL 6+.

The LynxSecure 4.0 product from LynuxWorks will be available for demonstration at the Embedded Systems Conference (Booth # 2038) in San Jose, California on April 27, 2010.
