Kontron Dual-core 3U CompactPCI CPU Board now Supports LynxOS-SE RTOS

Secure performance for "medium robustness" security applications

Eching, Germany/San Diego, USA, January 20, 2009Kontron, a global leader in Commercial-Off- The-Shelf (COTS) and custom embedded computing solutions, and LynuxWorks™ Inc., a world leader in the embedded software market, have announced support for LynuxWorks' LynxOS-SE 5.0 on Kontron's ITC-320 3U CompactPCI® CPU board, which is based on the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor.

The combination of the Kontron ITC-320 with the LynxOS-SE 5.0 RTOS provides a secure computing solution that is ideally suited for "medium robustness" security applications as defined by the US Government.

The Kontron ITC-320 series is a range of 3U CompactPCI® CPU boards using a high-performance and long-term available processing chipset from the Intel embedded architecture. The board with LynxOS-SE 5.0 is based on the 1.5 GHz Intel Core2 Duo LV processor. The use of Error Correction Code (ECC) DRAMs, the selection of components to ensure a long product life cycle and the layout of components to optimize cooling are part of the design methodology that ensure the Kontron ITC-320 optimally meets the requirements for secure applications in demanding environments. Furthermore, with its high-performance PCI-Express port, which is backwards-compatible with PCI supporting software and configurable either as x4 or quad x1, the Kontron ITC- 320 is ideally equipped for data-intensive applications.

"The Kontron ITC-320 rugged 3U CompactPCI x86 CPU board has generated huge interest amongst OEMs and system integrators for military and wayside transportation applications. The availability of LynxOS-SE on the Kontron ITC-320 extends the use of COTS products to high-end military and avionics applications that require enhanced safety and reliability features such as time and space partitioning," explains Norbert Hauser, VP of Marketing at Kontron. "We are very excited about teaming up with LynuxWorks to enable our customers from the defense and aerospace industry to extend the use of Kontron COTS products in their applications."

The LynxOS-SE 5.0 BSP is designed to meet the most stringent requirements for secure, real-time mission-critical applications and allows defense developers to quickly benefit from an out-of-the-box hardware/software solution that is optimized for the harshest environments and provides a single, powerful solution for real-time systems with zero downtime tolerance. The operating system provides open APIs, Linux ABI compatibility, full POSIX® conformance, medium-assurance security via the single-level operating-system-protection profile, and an advanced set of networking features for uncompromised performance. LynxOS-SE 5.0 also offers increased RAM that enables developers to take full advantage of current hardware designs. The system also features a fully integrated, updated GNU tool chain and an enhanced Linux ABI to provide a streamlined development and execution environment.
