New Eclipse-based Integrated Development Environment allows developers to speed development, reduce time to market
SAN JOSÉ, Calif., April 3, 2007—Advancing its leadership in open source and open standards, LynuxWorks™, Inc., a world leader in embedded software, today announced Luminosity 3, its next-generation integrated development environment (IDE) based on the popular open-source Eclipse IDE platform. Supporting the latest LynuxWorks operating systems, Luminosity 3 brings a new dimension in development—gathering together a unified IDE and debug features in a streamlined framework and easy-to-use interface. In addition, developers have access to a wide array of both enterprise and embedded plug-in tools to speed development and reduce time to market via the unique Luminosity Validated Plug-In Program.
Luminosity is a full-featured Java™-based IDE for LynuxWorks' new LynxOS 5 and LynxOS-SE operating systems and provides a simplified, flexible platform to create, edit, compile, manage and debug embedded and real-time applications. Based on Eclipse v3.2, Luminosity provides a pristine Eclipse framework, to which no modifications have been made, and it remains true to the platform. For build and debugging, the C and C++ Development Tools (CDT) project has been employed, with extended features being realized as new views and perspectives alongside this popular project. This use of the standard framework and projects allows for other plug-ins to be integrated seamlessly regardless of whether they integrate with the Eclipse platform or the CDT project.
"For nearly two decades, LynuxWorks has been working diligently to improve the development environment for embedded system developers. Luminosity 3 combines the best embedded development tools with an open framework to offer a complete development-to-deployment solution," said Robert Day, vice president of marketing, LynuxWorks. "Luminosity is more than a collection of tools, its integrated interface and collection of plug-ins encompass everything you need to develop embedded and real-time systems."
Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation said, "The embedded developer is very important to the Eclipse Foundation, and companies like LynuxWorks that embrace our open technology with products like Luminosity have helped fuel the growth and rapid adoption of Eclipse in the embedded community."
The Luminosity 3 IDE offers a rich set of features and gives developers an assortment of programs and tools including:
Luminosity 3 is available today for beta candidates, and will have its first shipping release in June.
