Embedded software leader announces availability of LynxOS 4.2 on SVME/DMV-183 boards to supply developers with complete combined hardware and software solutions

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., Oct. 4, 2007—Providing the latest solution in its line of robust support offerings for military and aerospace embedded applications developers, LynuxWorks™, Inc., a world leader in the embedded software market, today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX and CompactPCI products.

The growing alliance between LynuxWorks and Curtiss-Wright illustrates both companies' commitment to the military and aerospace industries and the developers that drive those industries. The alliance further enables the companies to provide advanced and reliable software for mission-critical applications.

Via this expanded partnership, the LynxOS® 4.2 fully supported real-time operating system (RTOS) board support package (BSP) will be available on Curtiss-Wright's rugged, conduction-cooled SVME/DMV-183 Single-Board Computer (SBC).

The combined hardware/software solution marks the first POSIX®-conformant and Linux-binary compatible operating system to be ported on Curtiss-Wright's hardware platform. As a result of the alliance, developers will benefit from lower costs, reduced time to market and an industry-leading foundation for sophisticated real-time systems.

"Our relationship with Curtiss-Wright provides yet another way for us to serve our customers in the military and aerospace markets," said Joe Wlad, director of product marketing, LynuxWorks. "By providing hardware and software solutions in a single package, LynuxWorks and Curtiss-Wright enable developers of military and aerospace applications to get to market faster. The combination of both products will provide an out-of-the-box solution for extreme and mission-critical environments with a crucial collection of capabilities that developers desire."

The LynxOS BSP is designed to meet the most stringent requirements for real-time mission-critical applications and allows defense developers to quickly benefit from an out-of-the-box hardware/software solution that is optimized for the harshest environments and provides a single, powerful solution for real-time systems that can't afford downtime. The operating system provides open APIs, Linux ABI compatibility, full POSIX conformance and an advanced set of networking features for uncompromised performance. LynxOS 4.2 also offers increased RAM, which enables developers to take full advantage of current hardware designs. The system also features a fully integrated, updated GNU toolchain and an enhanced Linux ABI to provide a streamlined development and execution environment.

"The Curtiss-Wright SVME/DMV-183 represents the latest advancement in functionality and performance for rugged single-board-computers, and our partnership with LynuxWorks opens up new opportunities for our customers," said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright's Modular Solutions group. "We are excited about teaming up with a leading player like LynuxWorks, which will enable us to provide our customers solutions that they need to quickly and efficiently develop defense and aerospace industry applications."

With two 64-bit PMC sites, one supporting 100 MHz PCI-X, and an innovative complement of I/O capability such as Gigabit Ethernet, up to six serial ports, up to two 1553 channels, SCSI, serial ATA, and two USB 2.0 ports, the Curtiss-Wright SVME/DMV-183 satisfies the most demanding requirements of embedded computing applications.
