Ruggedized platform maximizes LynuxWorks real-time, open-standards based functionality for advanced military applications
MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS CONFERENCE, WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 23, 2006—Expanding on its already robust support capabilities for developers of military and defense embedded applications, LynuxWorks™, Inc., today introduced a LynxOS® real-time operating system (RTOS) board support package (BSP) for Radstone Technology's PowerPC® 7D (PPC7D) single-board computer, which offers rugged commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded systems for defense applications.
The LynxOS BSP allows defense developers to quickly benefit from an out-of-the-box hardware/software solution that is optimized for the harshest environments by combining two products into one powerful solution. LynxOS is a leader in the military space—a popular choice for real-time systems that can't afford downtime. It combines a hard real-time technology with broad conformance to open and de-facto standards such as Linux®, POSIX® and UNIX®. Radstone's PPC7D is especially designed to withstand extreme conditions that require rugged air-cooled and conduction-cooled boards.
"We are excited to be expanding our support for Radstone Technology hardware," said Steve Blackman, director of business development, LynuxWorks. "The addition of the PPC7D board to our ever-growing stable of supported hardware enables LynuxWorks and partners like Radstone to provide our joint customers an out-of-the-box solution for extreme and mission-critical environments."
"The LynxOS board support package software provides customers a flexible and robust real-time operating system that takes full advantage of the performance of our PPC7D hardware," said Andy West, software product manager, Radstone Technology. "In expanding our support of LynuxWorks' RTOS, we aim to offer customers' products and support tools they need to quickly and efficiently develop defense-industry applications."
Radstone PPC7D is a significant leap forward for Radstone's PowerXtreme single-board computer roadmap, offering a powerful combination of the very latest technology and features, plus full compatibility with the PowerXtreme feature set. Radstone PPC7D offers the very latest 7448 PowerPC processor, fully supported by the Marvell Discovery III Integrated System Controller, providing high data bandwidth to Double Data Rate memory and a bridge to two PCI-X buses. Two PMC sites and a new Additional Flexible Interface Xtension (AFIX) site provide access to further incremental system expansion.
LynuxWorks' LynxOS provides a superior foundation for sophisticated real-time systems and is the only hard real-time technology with broad conformance to open and de facto standards such as Linux, POSIX and UNIX. LynuxWorks' most recent release, LynxOS 4.2, also has increased RAM (up to 1 GB), enabling developers to take full advantage of current hardware designs. LynxOS 4.2 also features a fully integrated, updated GNU toolchain (3.2.2) and an enhanced Linux ABI (based on glibc 2.2.93) to provide a streamlined development and execution environment.
The LynxOS BSP for Radstone PPC7D is available now. Radstone PPC7D is shipping today.
