LynuxWorks and Curtiss-Wright Controls team up to Offer Comprehensive Military and Aerospace Solutions

New partnership brings powerful combination of POSIX and Linux-based software to ruggedized PowerPC platform

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., Embedded Systems Conference, Booth #830, April 5, 2006—LynuxWorks™ Inc. today announced that it has teamed with Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing, the industry's most comprehensive and experienced single source for embedded solutions, to offer developers complete hardware and software solutions that are aimed at high-performance modular computing and integrated subsystem applications for aerospace, defense and industrial markets.

As part of this new relationship, the first project both companies have embarked on is porting LynuxWorks' popular LynxOS® RTOS operating system family to Curtiss-Wright's ruggedized, conduction-cooled PowerPC VMEbus platform, known as SVME/DMV-183 Single Board Computer (SBC). While Curtiss-Wright has supported LynxOS on some of its SBCs for a number of years, this combined hardware/software solution marks the first POSIX-conformant and Linux-binary compatible operating system to be ported on Curtiss-Wright's hardware platform. The benefits to developers include lower development cost, reduced time to market and a superior foundation for sophisticated real-time systems.

"Like Curtiss-Wright, LynuxWorks is a recognized leader in the defense market and a progressive player in the embedded market," said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Modular Solutions, Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing. "LynxOS support of Curtiss-Wright 183 single-board computers opens up great new opportunities for both of our companies. We are excited about strengthening our relationship with LynuxWorks."

Robert Day, vice president of marketing, LynuxWorks, said "Our proven and widely popular LynxOS family is the perfect match for Curtiss-Wright's solution. The combination of both products will deliver a winning set of features that developers will embrace."

With more than 16 years of proven experience, LynuxWorks LynxOS is designed to meet the most stringent requirements for real-time mission-critical applications. Developers are able to enjoy the time-to-market and investment-protection as well as advantages of open standards-based development using the LynxOS RTOS. In addition, LynuxWorks LynxOS provides open APIs, Linux ABI compatibility, full POSIX conformance, a 30 percent real-time performance increase and an advanced set of networking features for uncompromised performance.

Well-known for quality in embedded systems, Curtiss-Wright Controls products are designed for use in harsh environment applications, where they may be subjected to extreme temperatures, thermal cycling stress, and high shock and vibration conditions. To accommodate a wide spectrum of platforms with differing environmental requirements, the company offers products with a choice of ruggedization levels.
