LynuxWorks to integrate OSDL Carrier-Grade Linux specifications to upcoming versions of BlueCat Linux
SAN JOSÉ, Calif., October 21, 2002—LynuxWorks™, Inc., today announced support for the specifications of the Open Source Development Lab's Carrier-Grade Linux® specification (CGL) v1.0. LynuxWorks also announced plans to integrate the feature set of CGL v1.0 into next-generation versions of LynuxWorks' embedded Linux operating system, BlueCat® Linux, in early 2003. In doing so, LynuxWorks intends to deliver higher availability, security enhancements and new standards for the Linux kernel for vendors in the telecommunications market, such as telephone equipment manufacturers.
With support of the CGL specifications, BlueCat will become a key tool for communications service providers addressing new challenges in network architecture, bandwidth, security, and performance. BlueCat is an enhanced implementation of the Linux model, packaging the flexibility and cost benefits of open-source software with the stable construction of a commercial-grade embedded operating system. The result is a dependable product from an ISO 9001-certified company, with a comprehensive set of commercial-quality tools and board-support packages that will allow developers to deploy Linux into virtually any embedded environment.
"With enhanced communications services and rich voice and data applications more in demand than ever, our telecommunications customers are looking to LynuxWorks for a carrier-grade OS that offers unsurpassed high-availability, security and performance," said Greg Rose, director of product management at LynuxWorks. "By supporting Carrier-Grade Linux, we are continuing our long-term commitment to provide the most robust open-source software that will best serve developers in our key target markets."
