JumpStart developer packages introduced for growing market segments
EMBEDDED SYSTEMS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., March 11, 2002—LynuxWorks™ Inc., the technology leader in the embedded software solutions market, today announced that it will introduce a series of comprehensive developer packages over the next year to meet growing requirements in key vertical markets. The new packages, branded under the name JumpStart, are designed to enhance LynuxWorks' current product offerings by providing customers with a complete set of software components tailored for the most common "core" application needs; including software drivers, operating system, middleware and third-party layered software applications. JumpStart for Communications, designed for the telecommunications market, is the first solution available.
"The new vertical packages will reduce time-to-market pressures for manufacturers trying get products to market quicker with more competitive and advanced features," said Dr. Inder Singh, LynuxWorks CEO. "Each JumpStart package will save valuable developer time in integrating operating systems and microprocessors, and eliminating the need to purchase or develop middleware applications. As a result, they can focus on developing advanced product features with the benefit of reducing critical development cycles."
Over the next twelve months, LynuxWorks will release several more JumpStart developer packages designed for storage, home networking, military/aerospace, telematics, smart handheld devices and wireless applications. As a complete set of components, the packages provide the added benefit of a single source of support, which makes it easier for OEMs to streamline their development and deployment processes.
"The JumpStart packages are based on our industry-leading embedded technologies, such as the popular BlueCat Linux or renowned LynxOS real-time operating systems," said Bob Morris, vice president of sales and marketing for LynuxWorks. "With the introduction of these key vertical market solutions, LynuxWorks strengthens its appeal across the entire embedded market by being able to match individual developer needs with a flexible range of products and solutions."
Each JumpStart package will be designed for companies in highly competitive or emerging market segments. The component-based developer packages are based on LynuxWorks embedded software products and feature best-of-breed solutions from the company's SynergyWorks alliance partner program. LynuxWorks' goal with its vertical market solutions approach is to simplify and shorten the design, customization, and development processes for OEMs by providing complete solutions that are fully tested and integrated.
LynuxWorks offers the broadest range of prices and capabilities in its family of compatible operating systems—BlueCat Linux, BlueCat RT and LynxOS RTOS. All the operating systems are based on open standard interfaces and may be used in conjunction with each other or with third-party applications written to open standards. Their compatibility facilitates quick and easy migration when necessary, without the hassle of porting. LynuxWorks also offers the broadest choice of popular development environments and tools, including CodeWarrior IDE, VisualLynux plug-in for Visual Studio, and other tools optimized for LynuxWorks operating systems and tailored to embedded development. All tools are common to each operating system, shortening the process of embedded development by creating a familiar environment and removing the learning curve time when upgrading.
The company also offers a complete complement of services, including comprehensive support packages, flexible technical training, engineering services/contract engineering, and software certification services. Through its SynergyWorks Alliance network program, the combined resources of industry leaders such as Intel, Motorola, Force, and Trillium enable a steady flow of new reference platforms, evaluation kits and other solutions for specific applications.
