LynuxWorks working with Intel to provide comprehensive embedded Linux development solutions for new Intel network processors
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Feb. 26, 2002—LynuxWorks Inc., enabling greater developer choice and flexibility in embedded designs, today announced that its latest BlueCat® Linux® will begin shipping for the Intel® Internet Exchange Architecture (IXA) Software Developers Kit (SDK) 2.0 for the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor family. BlueCat 4.0 will upgrade the current version of BlueCat which supports the Intel IXA SDK 2.0. Introduced this past November, BlueCat 4.0 uses the updated 2.4 Linux kernel and tool chain, and offers a fully integrated and tested cross-development environment to facilitate specific development requirements.
The Intel IXA SDK 2.0 provides a hardware and software development environment with a full suite of microengine development tools to harness the power of the Intel IXP1200 Network Processor family and to expedite time-to-market schedules for next generation networking products. The integration of the big-endian version of BlueCat Linux 4.0 into the SDK provides developers with the latest royalty-free, open-source Linux development environment, well-suited for the needs of manufacturers developing core and edge networking applications.
LynuxWorks continues to be a key provider of Linux operating systems and software development tools for the Intel IXA and was one of the earliest providers of Linux for the Intel XScale technology. LynuxWorks is committed to actively supporting the new Intel IXP2800 and IXP2400 Network Processors. LynuxWorks intends to continue its support by providing a state-of-the-art embedded Linux solution for future releases of the Intel IXA SDK targeting high-performance optical core and edge networking markets.
"As microprocessor technology continues to advance and the embedded market accelerates production schedules, it is increasingly more important to offer embedded Linux developers complete design platforms that can reduce time-to-market schedules," said Dr. Inder Singh, CEO LynuxWorks. "LynuxWorks recognizes the important advances Intel has made in network processing and is committed to supporting its roadmap for advanced microengine functionality and development tools.
"LynuxWorks' expertise and ongoing commitment to providing timely embedded Linux networking solutions will provide equipment designers a valuable resource when developing products around the Intel IXP2800 and IXP2400 Network processors," said Doug Davis, general manager of the Intel Network Processor Division.
LynuxWorks is a member of the Intel IXA Developer Network, the Applied Computing Platform Provider (ACPP) program, and the Intel Communications Fund. Results of these cooperative efforts include solutions and technology initiatives targeted to the unique requirements of communications infrastructure providers.
The big-endian version of BlueCat 4.0 Linux for IXP1200/IXA SDK 2.0 is available immediately as part of a standard bundle from LynuxWorks. Bundles are available for numerous host/target processor combinations and include basic support with optional tools and upgrades to priority level support packages. LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux is an open-source embedded development environment without run-time royalties. Packaged with a range of host/target combinations, commercial grade tools, integrated development environments (IDE) and support programs, BlueCat meets the diverse needs of individual developers.
BlueCat Linux customers have the added and unique benefit of Application Binary Interface (ABI) compatibility with LynuxWorks' BlueCat RT Linux and LynxOS® real-ime operating systems. ABI compatibility gives developers an easy migratory path to run the embedded software code on a more robust real-time operating system without the cumbersome and time-consuming task of porting.
In support of open standards, all of BlueCat commercial grade tools are compatible with BlueCat RT Linux and LynxOS using common APIs simplifying the design process by eliminating learning cycles and reducing developer costs.
