SpyKer traces code for BlueCat, RedHat, Debian and SuSE
SAN JOSÉ, Calif.—July 23, 2001—LynuxWorks™, Inc. today announced that the company has validated its SpyKer™ trace analyzer tool with several popular Linux distributions, including BlueCat®, Red Hat, Debian and SuSE. The tool enables systems developers of both enterprise and embedded Linux applications to understand their system operation in both development and deployed systems.
SpyKer can be used by systems management personnel, technical support professionals, and applications programmers to collect trace data on the execution of a Linux system. A trace analyzer is an extremely powerful tool commonly used in the embedded systems industry for gathering systems execution information, analogous to a software logic analyzer. For highly specialized embedded applications, programmers need to know exactly what the CPU is doing at any point in time. LynuxWorks' SpyKer now gives this capability to people using standard Linux distributions. SpyKer's dynamic kernel instrumentation capability provides instant visibility into valuable system information, eliminating the annoyance of switching to a specially instrumented kernel. Another attractive feature of the product is the ability of the graphical user interface to trace the system of interest via sockets and TCP/IP, either locally or on the Internet.
"Linux has become truly pervasive and the need for sophisticated analysis tools is common amongst many market segments. LynuxWorks' system analysis tools have broad market applicability," said Greg Rose, director of product management for LynuxWorks. "SpyKer is a tool that is not only for developers of embedded applications, but any systems analysts monitoring all types of Linux systems. It's unique because it enables anyone supporting or maintaining a Linux system to visualize the execution of tasks at any point in time, which results in rapid resolution of system operation issues."
