Faircom Ports C-tree Plus to LynuxWorks' LynxOS and BlueCat Linux

SynergyWorks alliance yields embedded database platforms for aerospace, business electronics, telecommunications, internet infrastructure and other industry developers

SAN JOSÉ, Calif.-February 5, 2001—LynuxWorks™, Inc., a provider of open source and true real-time embedded solutions for the post-PC era, today announced that FairCom Corporation's c-tree Plus® File Handler V6.10, embedded database technology, and the FairCom® database Server V6.10.34 will be supported on the LynxOS® Real Time Operating System (RTOS) and the BlueCat Linux operating system from LynuxWorks.

FairCom's c-tree Plus database solution is a function library released in full C-source code. The API provides more than 100 functions performing all database functions, including data insertion, retrieval, updates and deletes. When the optional FairCom database Server is added, the database gains the benefits of client/server architecture, including reduced network traffic, full transaction processing, security, dynamic data backup and heterogeneous networking.

The port makes fast, persistent data storage with minimal overhead available to LynxOS and BlueCat Linux development communities in the aerospace, aviation, telecommunications, manufacturing/process automation, business electronics and Internet infrastructure industries. Typical products in which the technology can be found include devices used in space exploration; airport traffic control and baggage delivery systems; telephony devices; PBX equipment; robotic devices used in manufacturing; and Web servers, among others.

"FairCom's database solution offers the LynxOS and BlueCat developer a robust, proven solution that can scale from small embedded devices to robust enterprise-wide applications," said Randal Hoff, FairCom's director of business development. "The decision to port FairCom's embedded database technology to the LynxOS and BlueCat Linux operating systems was a result of the explosion in the embedded device market segment. Whenever two companies with an established presence in their market segments can work together, it's a win for everyone involved."

"FairCom's c-tree Plus and database Server offerings, which provide faster throughput and unsurpassed scalability and flexibility, make them a welcome addition and partner for the LynxOS and BlueCat Linux development communities," said Bob Morris, vice president of marketing for LynuxWorks. "This product offering fulfills the mission behind our SynergyWorks program by giving companies platforms that ease application development and deliver time-to-market."
