First Bluetooth company to partner with LynuxWorks™
SAN JOSÉ, Calif.-February 5, 2001—Rappore™ Technologies, Inc., a champion of "wirefree"™ communications, and LynuxWorks, Inc., announced today that they have ported Rappore's Bluetooth™ technology to LynuxWorks' BlueCat™ embedded Linux™. Furthermore, Rappore has joined the LynuxWorks SynergyWorks™ alliance program and is the first Bluetooth technology company to join.
Rappore's bulletproof Bluetooth protocol stack, which adheres to the Bluetooth 1.1 specification, enhances the BlueCat Linux operating system with Bluetooth wireless capabilities. Joint development will enable wireless connectivity for embedded devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable office equipment, automotive computing, cellular phones, digital cameras, medical equipment, industrial automation products, or any OEM embedded application that requires an embedded Linux operating system and Bluetooth radio connectivity.
Security considerations are significant factors for both embedded Linux and Bluetooth technology. Rappore asserts that true security should be "people-based" instead of simple device-level security. This approach is necessary to establish accountability to people in a wirefree environment. Rappore's Bluetooth security dovetails with embedded Linux security features while complying with current Bluetooth security standards.
"Rappore's technology and seasoned engineering organization complement our BlueCat Linux and professional services organization," said Dr. Inder Singh, CEO and chairman of LynuxWorks. "Our SynergyWorks alliance provided the framework for cooperation and co-development with Rappore to meet the OEM market's need for embedded Linux solutions with wireless functionality."
"LynuxWorks has always been a pioneer in developing technology that meets the most demanding customer requirements," said Dr. William Hogan, president and CEO of Rappore Technologies. "With Bluetooth implemented on BlueCat Linux, customers will benefit from shortened development cycles and ultimately have a time-to-market advantage in the competitive wireless products market."
Rappore demonstrated their wireless capabilities using their Bluetooth technology and LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux at the LinuxWorld Exposition, in the LynuxWorks booth.
