LynuxWorks Releases BlueCat Linux 2.0

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., June 19, 2000—LynuxWorks™, Inc., formerly Lynx Real-Time Systems, today released version 2.0 of the BlueCat® Linux® operating system including substantial increases in overall functionality and feature enhancements.

In addition to all the features of BlueCat 1.0, the new BlueCat 2.0 includes a memory sizing tool generating sampling reports of the amount of used and free memory in a target system, and an enhanced software debugger for use on device drivers and kernel modules. The latest release of the open-source operating system, specifically designed for use in embedded computing applications, can be booted from ROM or Flash, and supports M-Systems' Disk-on-Chip.

BlueCat 2.0 has expanded support for Intel Pentium®, Motorola PowerPC® and x86 systems including the Motorola PPC750 and MPC8260 PowerQUICCII CPUs and target system support packages for Motorola CPV5350, Ampro CM3P5E, Motorola MCP750/MCPN750, Radstone PPC4 and Motorola VADS8260. Also included in the distribution is the source code for LynuxWorks Messenger, the CompactPCI backplane messaging technology earlier contributed to the open-source community and now being widely used in embedded designs. BlueCat 2.0 runs on TurboLinux and Red Hat 6.1 or 6.2 as hosts.

BlueCat Linux 2.0 is available now from LynuxWorks and can be ordered on-line or through a local sales office. The distribution contains the operating system, tools, documentation set, application and demonstration source code. Free installation support is included with the purchase of BlueCat Linux.
