LynxOS and BlueCat Linux Supported by GoAhead Management Software Suite

LynuxWorks OEM users gain increased availability, functionality

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., May 22, 2000—LynuxWorks™, Inc., formerly Lynx Real-Time Systems, today announced that the GoAhead Software®, Inc. suite of off-the-shelf service availability software for Internet infrastructure devices supports both the LynuxWorks' LynxOS® real-time operating system (RTOS) and the BlueCat™ Linux® operating system. The partnership expands the ability of OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to provide increased availability and functionality on LynxOS and BlueCat Linux.

GoAhead Software's Service Availability solutions enable Internet infrastructure devices to be highly available and self-reliant. The product suite consists of GoAhead HighAvailability, GoAhead FieldUpgrader and GoAhead WebServer software solutions. GoAhead HighAvailability is a system-based solution that enables 99.999 percent ("five nines") availability by providing all the core functions for a true service availability solution: system data collection, fault and performance management, Web access and control, remote upgrading and high availability. GoAhead FieldUpgrader is a device-initiated, scalable solution that provides automatic field upgrades of software or firmware by periodically "phoning home" via the Internet to an upgrade server. GoAhead WebServer is an open source, embedded Web server that allows products to be accessed from a remote browser.

LynxOS, the cornerstone of the LynuxWorks product offerings, is a Linux-compatible, POSIX®-conformant hard RTOS that combines performance, reliability, openness and scalability for embedded applications. BlueCat Linux is part of the LynuxWorks product suite that allows embedded systems development on open source Linux and provides compatibility with LynxOS at the application interface.

"GoAhead's service availability software solutions enable communications infrastructure devices to be self-reliant and highly available," said Jim Airy, GoAhead's vice president of marketing. "Integrating our products with BlueCat Linux and LynxOS allows manufacturers to provide highly available, mission-critical applications on two of the industry's most reliable operating systems."

"We believe LynxOS and BlueCat users who are manufacturers of networked devices will welcome the addition of the GoAhead product suite," said Luke Dion, LynuxWorks' vice president of technology and strategic development. "This partnership offers such customers new levels of availability, functionality and reliability."
