Lynx, Intoto Team Up on Complete USB Host Protocol Solution

USB connectivity speeds development of embedded applications

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., May 1, 2000—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc. and Intoto, Inc. today announced the availability of Intoto's off-the-shelf USB host protocol software (USBStack) solution for the LynxOS® real-time operating system (RTOS).

The USBStack option enables LynxOS customers to quickly develop embedded applications with full USB connectivity. LynxOS is a Linux-compatible, POSIX®-conformant real-time operating system for embedded applications and is part of the Lynx LynuxWorks product family.

Intoto's USBStack with class drivers is a comprehensive USB host software solution conforming to the current USB 1.1 standards. USBStack helps customers jumpstart the product development process, enabling them to focus on developing applications rather than complicated but essential interface details. USBStack supports standard OHCI & UHCI USB controllers and custom host controller implementations in embedded microcontrollers such as StrongARM, SA-1101 and PowerPC 850, 823 and others. The USB devices (class drivers) that are supported include printers, scanners, video, audio, communication and mass storage. USBStack is supported on various processor architectures including x86, PowerPC, and StrongARM.

"USB connectivity is an essential requirement for newer embedded designs," said Sathyan Iyengar, president and CEO of Intoto. "We are pleased to enable Lynx customers with our off-the-shelf solution to leverage this de-facto standard connectivity mechanism in their embedded designs thereby reducing their time-to-market and development costs."

About USB

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a fast, bi-directional, isochronous, low-cost, dynamically attachable serial interface designed to provide ease of connectivity to PCs and devices. With such features as high speed, hot "pluggability," USB has become a de-facto standard for various consumer and peripheral devices. The USB connectivity standard allows as many as 127 devices to be connected to a host system. The current standard for USB (Version 1.1) allows data transfer rates of 1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps.
