Existing services to be expanded to support embedded Linux
SAN JOSÉ, Calif.—November 28, 1999—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc., today announced the availability of technical support, consulting and training services for developers working on embedded applications using Linux. The expansion of current services from Lynx is an integral part of the Lynx Linux Initiative (L2I).
"Our existing team has more than 12 years of experience providing training, support and consulting for the embedded marketplace. It is more than ready to help customers develop and deploy embedded software on Linux", said Gurjot Rajpal, Vice President of Engineering Services at Lynx. "Our ISO 9001 certified processes and state-of-the-art support infrastructure ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction in the services we offer."
Lynx has expanded its staff of software professionals to provide consulting services immediately to customers developing embedded software applications on Linux. The services include operating system porting, device driver development, system and application design and implementation. Beginning in January 2000, Lynx will also offer a variety of training classes on the application of Linux for embedded software design. The classes will cover practical methods for embedding Linux including porting to custom hardware, Linux internals, and networking and system administration issues.
Lynx will implement two types of technical support in first quarter of 2000, coinciding with the introduction of Lynx' embedded Linux, BlueCat Linux™.
(a) Incident support will include telephone assistance pertaining to subjects such as installation, configuration, command syntax, application programming interfaces, system calls, device facilities, and utilities within BlueCat Linux.
(b) Priority support will provide extensive technical assistance and product update features consistent with premium programs offered by other commercial operating system companies. Customers will have an assigned technical account manager to coordinate support services ensuring fast response to inquiries and problem reports. Interim fixes and updates will be issued through service pack updates using Lynx's proprietary product update mechanism.
Lynx will also extend its industry-leading long-term support program to include Linux, making it the industry's first long-term support for the open-source operating system. The program will provide priority support for up to 10 years for any BlueCat Linux release from Lynx.
