Alliance brings combined benefits of the JSCP software co-processor for Java and LynxOS to real-time and embedded systems market
JavaONE, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—June 15, 1999—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc. and NSIcom today announced a strategic alliance that builds on innovative Java technology to provide standards-based products for the real-time and embedded market. Applications in the telecommunications, data communications, avionics, and automotive industries will benefit from the combination of NSIcoms Software Co-Processor for Java (JSCP) family of products for the highly reliable LynxOS.
NSIcom is the technology vendor-of-choice for implementing Sun Microsystems' Java in the embedded environment. The Lynx real-time operating system, LynxOS, provides a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) embedded software solution that combines full determinism, flexible scalability, protection of application software through hardware memory management, complete POSIX® compliance, and support for high availability.
"NSIcom extends the high performance LynxOS real-time operating system environment by adding a powerful Sun-compliant Java solution for embedded design," said John Seaton, VP marketing, Lynx Real-Time Systems. "Through our Synergy Partner Program, we will work together to provide a high quality and robust solution that meets our customers most demanding requirements." Incorporating NSIcom's unique encapsulation technology, JSCP overcomes standard Java Virtual Machine (JVM) paradigm porting issues. JSCP offers embedded systems users an unmatched combination of Java advantages and LynxOS real-time capabilities—high robustness, deterministic operation, small-memory footprint and easy maintainability. The encapsulation technology enables Java application threads to be executed as a single task in parallel to real-time tasks under the LynxOS kernel.
"This new partnership underscores Lynx and NSIcom's commitment to provide the embedded market with high quality, highly reliable state-of-the-art products. We are pleased to offer Lynx customers the access to Sun's original technology and Java Compatibility Kit (JCK) compliance," said Marius Gafen, VP marketing, NSIcom.
"LynxOS customers can now benefit from JSCP's feature-rich JVM optimized for embedded systems." JSCP products are designed to provide reduced time-to-market and shorter development cycles. JSCP precisely controls the resources used in Java applications—memory, central processing unit (CPU) and input/output (I/O) channel—thus improving both the reliability and the performance of the Java implementation. In addition to standard Java-based capabilities, JSCP offers a suite of tools and services for fast and reliable customizing Java to specific customer hardware.
JSCP is immediately available from NSIcom and Lynx for PowerPC™ processors and can be quickly ported to additional processors. JSCP has successfully passed the Java Compatibility Kit test suite and offers the JCK certification service to its customers. NSIcom provides embedded systems users worldwide a competitive advantage by enabling Java to run on their devices.
Dedicated to investing in its customers' success, NSIcom focuses on leading edge development, maintenance and the continued introduction of new products that expand its JSCP (Software Co-Processor for Java) family. JSCP is proven in use with all the leading (real-time operating systems (RTOSs) and CPUs, and is up and running in a variety of embedded industries. CrEme, the latest addition to this family, is optimized for Windows CE handheld type devices. One of the first Sun-Java licensees, NSIcom has earned the position of vendor-of-choice for Java in the embedded and Windows CE environments. Visit NSIcom at www.nsicom.com.
