MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—May 19, 1999—TimesTen Performance Software and Lynx Real-Time Systems today announced the availability of the TimesTen™ 3.2 in-memory database on the Lynx real-time operating system. The companies also revealed that Lucent Technologies has selected TimesTen and LynxOS® to power its next-generation WaveStar™ DACS cross-connect product.
TimesTen 3.2 for LynxOS is a computing industry first: the combination of standards-based real- time database performance with standards-based real-time operating system services. LynxOS is based on the UNIX and POSIX® standards, and TimesTen is based on the relational database model and the standard SQL and ODBC programming interfaces. This unprecedented combination of performance and availability will be jointly marketed by the two companies toward applications of mutual interest, such as today's voice and data networking infrastructures.
"LynxOS has the performance and features to implement extremely sophisticated and demanding applications that manage and manipulate data in real time," said Bill Hogan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Lynx Real-Time Systems. "TimesTen's in-memory database technology is an excellent addition for our customers and a perfect complement to our product. TimesTen and Lynx share a common focus on utilizing industry standards while maximizing performance."
"Companies that build telecommunications and data communications systems have been using TimesTen on Unix-based servers from Sun, HP, and IBM for some time," said James R. Groff, CEO of TimesTen Performance Software. "Now those companies are asking for the benefits of in-memory database technology on the 'front line' of their network systems, where real-time operating systems like LynxOS are the underlying platform. This partnership increases the value of both companies' solutions, and gives our mutual customers unprecedented capabilities."
TimesTen 3.2 for LynxOS is available for beta testing, with general availability this summer.
