Dr. Paul Kaminski, Albert Clarkson, and Gilbert Decker to provide depth in government and military applications
SAN JOSÉ, Calif.—November 9, 1998—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc. today announced the establishment of a technical advisory board made up of former senior U.S. Defense Department executives and consultants. The board includes Dr. Paul G. Kaminski, former Undersecretary of Defense; Gilbert Decker, former Assistant Secretary of the Army; and Albert Clarkson, consultant to the Defense, Justice, Energy departments, as well as the National Security Council and various Silicon Valley information technology corporations.
"Mission-critical applications are the only kind of applications for the military. That makes LynxOS real-time operation systems (RTOS) important to the military," said Dr. William Hogan, president of Lynx. "The experience of these three men will help us better understand the needs of the aerospace and military market to deliver products that meet those needs.
Dr. Paul Kaminski is currently chairman and CEO of Technovation, Inc., a consulting company dedicated to the development and application of advanced technology, and a senior partner in the investment firm of Global Technology Partners, an affiliate of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Merchant Banking Partners. He served as Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology from 1994 to 1997. Prior to that position, he was a highly-decorated officer in the Air Force for 20 years, serving as Director for Low Observables Technology, directing the development and fielding of stealth systems, and as a special assistant to the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.
Dr. Kaminski is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE, an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He serves on the board of directors for several U.S. corporations and industry groups. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Air Force Academy, Master of Science degrees in aeronautics and astronautics and electrical engineering from MIT and a Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University.
Gilbert Decker, currently a private consultant, was most recently Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research, Development and Acquisition from 1994 to 1997. Between 1977 and 1994, he served as president and CEO for several companies including Xeruca Holding, Inc., Acurex Corporation, Penn Central Federal Systems Company and ESL, Inc. He has also served as a senior executive for TRW and Sylvania Electric Products Corporation and served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1988.
Decker was a member of the National Academy of Science/National Research Council, and is currently serving on the Board of Army Science and Technology Panel as a member of its executive committee. He holds a BSEE from Johns Hopkins University and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
Albert Clarkson has led numerous special projects under contract to the U.S. Government, including reviewing security for nuclear facilities and has testified before Congress on the uses of information technology for emergency management. From 1984-1992 he served as manager of the Advanced Information Technology Laboratory at ESL, Inc. In 1985, Clarkson co-founded Intrell, Inc., an information-technology consulting consortium supported by the Executive Branch and Defense Department. Intrell, based in Los Gatos, California, consists of prominent scientists, Nobel Laureates and National Security policy experts. From 1992 to 1995, Clarkson was director of dual-use operations for TRW Business Intelligence Systems in Sunnyvale, California. He is currently co-owner, vice-president and member of the board for CHARMCO Corporation, a privately held commercial real-estate leasing company in Charleston, West Virginia.
