LynxOS cross-development support added for HP/UX platform
SAN DIEGO, Calif.—September 15, 1998—Synergy Microsystems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high performance VMEbus CPU boards and mezzanine cards, today announced a strategic partnership with Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc., makers of Lynx, a highly scalable and configurable real-time operating system. This partnership provides solutions optimized for applications requiring the highest level of real-time performance. Targeted at developers of high-end VMEbus applications, Synergy's computer boards will support the Lynx 3.0.0 real-time operating system (RTOS). Lynx is a UNIX®-compatible, POSIX®-conforming, multiprocess and multithreaded operating system designed for complex hard real-time applications.
"Synergy's focus on pushing the limits of VMEbus performance is complemented by Lynx's strong commitment to hard real-time applications," said Tom Powell, CEO of Synergy Microsystems. "The synergies between our boards and Lynx's OS provide the performance necessary to drive today's demanding applications."
"Combining the high-performance of Synergy's boards with Lynx's scalable, standards-based architecture and development tools gives customers the power they need for their critical real-time applications," said Inder Singh, CEO of Lynx. "Partnerships like this enhance our long-term strategy to provide strong value and support to our customers."
Both Synergy and Lynx focus their product designs on markets that require fast, deterministic response. Synergy's boards use the latest innovations in technology and design to achieve maximum performance in the widest range of applications. Features include dual or single processors, 425 MB/S synchronous DRAM, a 64-bit PCI local bus, and VME Speedway, a significant advance in PPC-to-VME data transfer technology, and a Synergy exclusive.
VME Speedway performs the most common VMEbus activity, non-block transfers, typically twice as fast as other boards. This is achieved by providing a direct data path between the CPU and the VMEbus. Other boards force non-block transfers through the PCI bus before they get to the VMEbus, adding a considerable delay.
Lynx supports real-time applications with innovative features that include patented interrupt handling technology, snugly coupled multiprocessing (SCMP) and advanced memory management. Lynx's commitment to industry standards enables system integrators to shorten development time and reduce time-to-market. The partnership of Synergy and Lynx will provide the hardware and software that make hard real-time applications operate efficiently.
Synergy Microsystems, Inc. designs and manufactures high performance VMEbus single board computers with single and dual PowerPC and 68K microprocessors for use in demanding real-time applications. Synergy also offers a line of daughtercards supporting a variety of I/O options. The company has a long track record of extracting the highest possible performance from current and emerging SBC technology, as well as providing innovative solutions to unique applications. In business since 1985, the growing corporation is privately held, with headquarters in San Diego, California and R&D facilities in San Diego and Tucson, Arizona.
