Lynx Appoints two new Vice Presidents

Former Itron and Optivision executives join Lynx management team

SAN JOSÉ, Calif.—July 13, 1998—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc., a leader in embedded software solutions, today announced the hiring of new vice-presidents of engineering and worldwide sales. Luke C. Dion, former vice president of fixed network development and manufacturing of Itron (NASDAQ:ITRI), joins Lynx to head up the engineering effort, and Ed McCurtain, previously vice president of marketing and sales for Optivision, Inc., will lead the company's global sales organization. Both individuals will report to Bill Hogan, president and COO of Lynx.

Background information

Luke C. Dion brings more than 20 years of computer industry experience in product development and 15 years of management background to Lynx. Most recently Dion lead research, design, development, and manufacturing efforts for Itron's Fixed Network wireless data acquisition system which is used to read utility meters. Previously, as vice president of engineering at Microtec Research, Dion was responsible for all product development, covering embedded software tools as well as the VRTX real-time operating system. Dion headed up Microtec's technology and product development, helping to bring Microtec through their IPO and subsequent acquisition by Mentor Graphics Corp. Prior to his tenure at Microtec, as software engineering operations manager at Motorola Computer Group (MCG), Dion spearheaded MCG's software product development and hardware/software integration processes. Dion holds undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from U.C. Berkeley and pursued graduate studies in Computer Science at Stanford University.

Ed McCurtain brings with him more than 20 years of sales and marketing experience in high technology start-ups in Silicon Valley. While at Optivision, McCurtain tripled sales in two years, selling embedded video and communications products into the military, aerospace, broadcast, data communications and telecommunications markets. As vice president of sales at Plexus Computers, he was among the first to commercialize the UNIX operating system. As director of sales for MasPar Computer Corp., he pioneered the sales of massively parallel supercomputers to military, aerospace, university, energy and research users. McCurtain started his sales career at Xerox Data Systems managing a sales team in five mid-western states, selling into the military, aerospace, telecommunications, university and Fortune 500 research and development markets. McCurtain has a bachelor's degree in Speech and Communications from Drury College.
