ANN ARBOR, Mich. and SAN JOSÉ, Calif., April 25, 1997—Open Networks Engineering (ONE), a leading supplier of Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) products and Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc., announced today that ONE's Foundation OSI™ product is now available on LynxOS version 2.4. This will allow developers of LynxOS-based applications to more easily include TMN product support, thus improving overall time-to-market.
"We are very happy to announce this relationship with Lynx," said Curtis Begley, vice president of sales and marketing at ONE. "There are an increasing number of embedded applications requiring TMN network management capability, and Lynx has become very popular in several of our customer segments. This relationship allows us to continue our leadership role in providing software solutions to the real-time embedded TMN marketplace."
"ONE's TMN software suite integrated with our embeddable, real-time operating system (LynxOS), provides our communications customers with a powerful off-the-shelf solution for their embedded software requirement," said Dino Brusco, director, communications marketing for Lynx. We are growing very rapidly because of the emphasis on using high-level software interface standards (UNIX®/POSIX®) to reduce software development and maintenance costs and achieve faster time-to-market. LynxOS provides these high-level APIs yet is small, ROMable, and maintains deterministic real-time performance."
This initial release is for the PowerPC hardware platform. Additional processors will be supported on a customer demand basis and can generally be completed in a relatively short period of time. In addition, Open Networks Engineering and Lynx have formalized their working relationship by integrating ONE into the Lynx Synergy Partner Program.
The Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) is defined by the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) and provides a universal way for telecommunications service companies to monitor and control their networks and equipment.
ONE's Foundation TMN™ product family includes development tools and protocol products. Foundation OSI software is a full-featured OSI protocol stack that forms the networking foundation for open systems data communications for network elements and management systems. The Foundation Real-Time Agent Developer (RAD) is a set of software tools for designing, developing, and testing Common Management Information Protocol/Guidelines for the Definition of Managed Objects (CMIP/GDMO) TMN agents. Foundation RAD™ is fully integrated with the Foundation OSI products. Together, they provide off-the-shelf, turnkey solutions for real-time TMN agent development and operation. ONE's protocol products and development tools are specifically designed for real-time embedded systems and UNIX platforms.
Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc. is a worldwide supplier of real-time operating systems and development tools. Its products shorten product development cycles and lower costs for software engineers who design mid-range to high-end embedded applications. By committing to POSIX, UNIX, and other industry standards, the company enables customers to leverage their investments in software development and education. No other real-time operating system matches the degree of LynxOS compliance to POSIX. The IEEE POSIX standard plays a key role in leading the embedded, real-time world toward open systems. It defines the industry-standard application programming interface (API) for UNIX, and provides the first standard API for real-time embedded applications.
Founded in 1988 as a privately-held company, Lynx has offices in the U.S., Europe and Japan, and worldwide headquarters in San José, Calif.
Open Networks Engineering, is the leading provider of binary, turnkey TMN protocol solutions for telecommunication manufacturers and integrators. ONE's Foundation TMN software provides flexible, scalable, robust Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol solutions and development tools for the management of telecommunications equipment. ONE's OSI TMN solutions are used in fiber optic systems for SONET/SDH, wireless equipment for GSM, CDPD, and PCS, as well as broadband devices like ATM switches and HFC and SDV systems.
Founded in 1987, ONE is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with international offices in Paris, France. ONE is a Mentor Graphics (Nasdaq: MENT) company. Additional company and product information is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.one.com/.
