The Marvell^® 88SX5040, 88SX5041, 88SX5080, and 88SX5081 four- and eight-port Serial ATA I host controllers provide a 64-bit PCI-X bus interface with high-performance features, such as Serial ATA I/ATA-6 Tag Command Queuing (TCQ) and Marvell's Enhanced Direct Memory Access (EDMA) architecture with interrupt coalescing.

The Serial ATA physical interfaces (PHYs) implement Spread Spectrum Clocking (SCC) as well as per-port amplitude and pre-emphasis adjustment, enabling enterprise backplane implementations.

The 88SX50xx controllers enable development of high-performance, cost-effective Serial ATA storage solutions such as storage arrays for Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Networks (SAN), Direct Attached Storage (DAS), and Nearline Backup. The 88SX50xx controller architecture is also ideal for RAID Adapter Card and RAID on Motherboard (ROMB) applications for Servers and Workstations.
