The PMC671, using 1000BaseSX (LX option is available), is capable of full duplex operation. The PMC671 Ethernet/PCI interface includes a powerful DMA engine with very deep FIFO buffers (64K byte). This assures continuous, full bandwidth operation with minimum PCI overhead.
The PMC671 has four flavours of I/O connectivity: SC, LC, VF-45 or MT-RJ—each available with SX or LX options. In addition, card edge PCI systems can be accommodated using GE Fanuc Embedded Systems' PMC239 adapter for rapid prototype and development.
Two PMC671 boards can be directly cabled with a simple "cross-over." This configuration creates a full duplex 1000Mbit dedicated data path—delivering high bandwidth at very low cost. More complex, dedicated interconnects can be created using a hub or switch. Both point-to-point and switched hubs, in full duplex mode, remove many determinism concerns raised with traditional Ethernet solutions. This makes the PMC671 an excellent candidate for high performance interconnects that require real-time determinism.
